Provenance
In 1901, a farmer, T. A. Isaev, found two silver vessels– this bowl decorated with a lion and a plate decorated with a horse– and four grivnas under the stump of an old birch tree (Talitskaia 1952, 181). Isaev lived near the village of Kudeseva (Кудесева) on the Kama River in the Cherdynskii County (Чердынский Уезд) of the Perm Governorate (Пермская Губерния) of the Russian Empire. Both vessels arrived at the Imperial Hermitage Museum sometime before 1909, and remain in the collection of the renamed State Hermitage Museum today.
Kudeseva was located on an early rail line running along the Kama. In the mid-twentieth century, Kudeseva was abandoned but a landmark called ‘Rodin Mys’ remains. Kudeseva neighbored the village of Ankudinovo, which is still inhabited today. Between Kudeseva and Ankudinovo, another village, Isaevo, developed in the mid-twentieth century. The nearest inhabited village to the find location of the hoard is Isaevo (Исаево), which is in the present-day Gainskii District (Гайнский Район), Perm Province/Krai (Пермский Край), Russian Federation.
