Provenance
In 1896 Aleksei Timofeevich Poluianov found a bowl and this bottle while plowing a field near the village of Kvat’-Pelev (Квать-Пелев) (local Permyak name) / Kvatspileevo (Квацпилеево) (Russified name) in the Solikamskii County (Соликамский Уезд) of the Perm Governorate (Пермская Губерния) of the Russian Empire. In transporting the vessels to the Imperial Archaeological Commission for appraisal the base of the bottle was damaged. An official of Kudymkar, Aleksandr Ivanovich Bronskii, then purchased the vessels for 150 rubles before the Archaeological Commission could make an offer. The Commission finally purchased the vessels from Bronskii for 400 rubles in 1897 (Trever and Lukonin 1987, 124). In 1898 the Commission sent both vessels to the Imperial Hermitage Museum. The bottle is housed in the renamed State Hermitage Museum with the number S-6.
The village is still referred to as Kvat’-Pelev in the local Permyak language but was at some time in the last century officially changed to Sadovaia (Садовая). Sadovaia is presently located in the Kudymkarskii District (Кудымкарский Район), Perm Province/Krai (Пермский Край), Russian Federation.
